Ashfield U3A Pie & Pea Supper & Quiz Night 2011
Saturday, 6th October saw the fifth, hugely successful 'Pie & Pea Supper & Quiz' evening, an event which had been long awaited by the members. With 104 tickets sold, it was held this year at our regular meeting place of The Ashwood Centre, Kirkby-in-Ashfield. As usual, members were grouped into teams of eight.
The meal of pie and peas, gravy and mint sauce was served during the evening by a team of willing volunteers, accompanied by bottled water and other liquid refreshments provided by those who attended. The steak pies were supplied by Scott Barlow Butchers and the vegetarian pies were baked by Carole Britton.
As last year, Martin Rose set the questions and chaired the quiz, whilst Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Ashfield U3A's Chairman, Ron Britton, with Barrie Jackson compiling the scores. After the meal, two 'heads and tails' raffles took place, with prizes for the finalists.
Before the quiz commenced, each team decided upon a name. This year's winning team was 'The Wineoes'. A cash prize was shared by the members of the winning team.
Grateful thanks are extended to the committee and other volunteers who set out tables and chairs and cleared away afterwards and generally helped to make the evening such a success. Some photographs of the event appear below.
