On Saturday, 23rd April 2011, The Ashwood Centre was the venue for the St. George's Day 'Last Night of the Proms' celebration.

Members from Ashfield U3A enjoyed a two-course meal in English style catered for by Scott Barlow and were entertained by a programme from Newstead Brass, concentrating mainly on an English theme. After the meal, the second half of the programme was dedicated to a 'Last Night of the Proms' in which members gave voice to such rousing numbers as 'Jerusalem', 'I Vow to Thee My Country', 'Land of Hope & Glory' and 'Rule Britannia'.
